Logo Removal Service

Logo Removal Service

Logo Removal purports to be a service that, as written on the website, "excises unwanted brand names, logos, tags, stains, marks etc. In their stead, we create new and magical shapes, using fresh colors and contrasting thread. We leave edges beautifully raw, protected from fraying with our signature ‘double-time’ stitching."

Logo Removal is exactly what it claims to be, a service for removing logos. It is also a means to investigate and mildly (quixotically) challenge the need for companies to claim their turf, a consumer society that encourages us to visibly identify ourselves with a commercial tribe, to cover ourselves in symbols that disempower us. Logo Removal replaces these symbols with abstract shapes that have no purpose. These shapes may, however, incite curiosity ("what is that?" or, "that looks like a ...") or conversation.

Logo Removal is also a live performance, in which I remove logos and insert strange shapes (in one step). Visit LogoRemoval.com for more (including custom orders).

Quoted from the Logo Removal website:  About Pricing. Every business works out their own rubric to figure out pricing, some combination of the actual costs and the perceived (or desired) value of the good or service. Maybe, as with raw materials, it's what the market will bear or what corporate cabals have agreed upon. (And all raw materials are, in fact, limited, even if it's hard to tell.)

Logo Removal interactive performance at the Oakland Museum of California. The logo was removed from the sewing machine for this occasion. Because the museum gave me a small stipend, I did not charge visitors for the logos I removed.
